Method
Fit a filter
Put a paper filter in the filter cap, screw it onto the chamber and stand the AeroPress Clear on a sturdy mug.
Add the coffee
Measure the coffee with the scoop that comes with the AeroPress Clear and add it to the chamber.
Add water and stir
Pour in hot water to the numbered marks on the chamber and stir with the stirrer. Through the clear chamber you can watch the coffee and water mix.
Press
Put the plunger in and press down slowly and steadily.
Top up if you like
For a longer American-style coffee, top up the concentrate with hot water.
Clean it
Push out the used coffee and filter, then rinse the parts. The AeroPress Clear is safe on the top or bottom rack of a dishwasher.
The AeroPress Clear is the AeroPress Original remade in Tritan, a tough, see-through plastic, so you can watch your coffee brew. It uses the same patented brewing method as the Original: steep the coffee in hot water, then press it through a filter. AeroPress launched it on 8 May 2023. Here’s how to use it, what it makes and how it compares with the Original.
The short version
- The Original AeroPress in clear Tritan. Same brewing, see-through body.
- Launched 8 May 2023, at $49.95 in the US.
- One press makes one 10 oz serving of American coffee or cold brew, or up to three espresso-style shots.
- BPA-free and dishwasher safe, top or bottom rack.
- Comes with a scoop and a stirrer, plus paper filters.
How is the AeroPress Clear different from the Original?
The brewing is identical. The difference is the material:
| AeroPress Clear | AeroPress Original | |
|---|---|---|
| Brewing | AeroPress’s patented steep-and-press method | The same |
| Chamber and plunger | Tritan: clear and shatterproof | Standard AeroPress plastic |
| See the brew | Yes | No |
| Flow Control cap | Fits | Fits |
Tritan is a clear plastic made by Eastman Chemical Company, which owns the trademark. It looks a lot like glass but is shatterproof. AeroPress says the Clear’s stirrer and scoop are polypropylene.
What comes in the box?
The AeroPress Clear comes with the chamber, plunger and filter cap, a stirrer, the scoop for measuring coffee, and a pack of paper filters. The number of filters varies by retailer and bundle, so check the listing if it matters to you.
How much coffee does the AeroPress Clear make?
According to AeroPress, one press makes one standard 10 oz serving of American coffee or cold brew, or up to three shots of espresso-style coffee. To brew more at once, look at the AeroPress Clear XL, which has a 20 oz (600 ml) capacity.
What grind size should I use?
The same as any AeroPress: around medium-fine. Grind finer if it tastes sour and thin, coarser if it’s bitter or hard to press.
How do you use the AeroPress Clear, step by step?
- Fit a paper filter in the cap, screw it onto the chamber and stand it on a sturdy mug.
- Add the coffee, measured with the scoop that comes with the Clear.
- Pour in hot water to the numbered marks and stir. Through the clear chamber you can watch the coffee and water mix.
- Press slowly and steadily.
- Top up with hot water for a longer American-style coffee, if you like.
For recipes, including James Hoffmann’s popular 11 g to 200 g method, see the main AeroPress guide. The Flow Control filter cap fits the Clear if you want to steep longer without drips.
How do you clean the AeroPress Clear?
Unscrew the filter cap over the bin and push the plunger through to pop out the used coffee and filter, then rinse the parts. AeroPress says the Clear is dishwasher safe on the top or bottom rack, so you can also put it through a dishwasher cycle.
General guidance only. Always follow the instructions that come with your AeroPress.
AeroPress Clear colours
In April 2024, AeroPress added the AeroPress Clear Colors collection: the same AeroPress Clear in a range of colours. They brew exactly the same way; only the colour changes.
Should I buy the AeroPress Clear?
- Buy the Clear if you’d like to watch the brew and want a tough, BPA-free, dishwasher-safe AeroPress for home.
- Buy the Clear XL if you regularly brew more than one serving.
- Buy the Go if it’s mainly for travel: it packs into its own mug.
More on choosing in the AeroPress kit guide.

What you’ll need
Words in this guide
- Body
- Body is how heavy and textured coffee feels in your mouth, from light and tea-like to thick and syrupy.
- Steeping
- Steeping is leaving ground coffee to sit in water so its flavour dissolves out, as in a French press or cold brew.
- Pour-over
- Pour-over is a way of making filter coffee by hand: you pour hot water over ground coffee in a filter cone and let it drip through into a cup or jug.
