AeroPress Premium

Fit a filter

Put a paper filter in the stainless steel filter cap and screw it onto the glass chamber.

The AeroPress Premium is the glass and metal AeroPress. Its chamber is handmade, double-wall borosilicate glass, with an anodised aluminium plunger and a stainless steel filter cap. It brews the same way as the Original, steeping the coffee and pressing it through a filter, and holds the same 10 oz (1–2 cups). AeroPress launched it in September 2024. Here’s what’s different, how to care for it and whether it’s worth it for you.

The short version

  • The glass and metal AeroPress: double-wall borosilicate glass, stainless steel and aluminium.
  • Holds 10 oz, or 1–2 cups, the same as the Original and Clear.
  • Comes with a stainless steel scoop and stirrer, plus paper filters.
  • Hand wash only. It doesn’t go in the dishwasher.
  • Brew it upright. AeroPress strongly discourages the inverted method with the Premium.

How is the Premium different from the Original?

The brewing is the same. What changes is what it’s made of, and how you look after it:

AeroPress Premium AeroPress Original
Brewing Steep and press through a filter The same
Chamber Handmade double-wall borosilicate glass Standard AeroPress plastic
Plunger Anodised aluminium Plastic
Filter cap Stainless steel Plastic
Scoop and stirrer Stainless steel Plastic
Capacity 10 oz (1–2 cups) The same as the Premium
Dishwasher No, hand wash only See your instructions

What comes in the box?

According to AeroPress, the Premium comes with:

  • The glass chamber, with its aluminium flange
  • The anodised aluminium plunger
  • The stainless steel filter cap
  • A stainless steel scoop for measuring the coffee
  • A stainless steel stirrer
  • Paper filters

Can you brew the Premium upside down?

AeroPress strongly discourages the inverted method with the Premium. Upside down, the brewer is less stable and can tip, which risks burns from hot coffee. Brew it standing upright on a sturdy mug.

General safety guidance only. Always follow the instructions that come with your AeroPress.

What filters does the Premium use?

Its paper filters go in the stainless steel filter cap. AeroPress also says its standard-size stainless steel filter works with the Premium, as it does with the Original, Clear, Go and Go Plus.

What grind size should I use?

Around medium-fine, the same as any AeroPress. Grind finer if it’s sour and thin, coarser if it’s bitter or hard to press.

The AeroPress Premium sits around medium-fine on the grind scale, like the Original.

How do you use the AeroPress Premium, step by step?

  1. Fit a paper filter in the stainless steel cap and screw it onto the glass chamber.
  2. Stand it upright on a sturdy mug.
  3. Add the coffee, measured with the stainless steel scoop.
  4. Pour in hot water and stir.
  5. Press slowly and steadily.

For recipes and technique, see the main AeroPress guide.

How do you clean the Premium?

Unscrew the filter cap over the bin and push the plunger through to pop out the used coffee and filter. Then wash the parts by hand: AeroPress says the Premium is hand wash only because it’s hand-crafted. Each glass chamber is handmade, so small imperfections in the glass can be normal.

General guidance only. Always follow the instructions that come with your AeroPress.

When did the AeroPress Premium come out?

AeroPress, Inc. unveiled the Premium on 27 September 2024. It went on sale on 29 September, National Coffee Day, at $149.95 in the US, alongside a stainless steel organiser stand. Daily Coffee News reported that the first production run sold out on its first day.

In September 2025, for the AeroPress’s 20th year, AeroPress added Premium Black and Premium White editions. AeroPress also sells a Premium Walnut, with walnut trim and a solid walnut scoop and stirrer, and a Premium 20th Anniversary Bundle that adds the organiser stand, double-wall glass mugs and a gold-tone filter. All of them brew in the same way as the Premium.

Should I buy the Premium?

  • Buy the Premium if you’d like a glass and metal AeroPress for home, and you’re happy to wash it by hand.
  • Buy the Clear if you want to see the brew in a tough, dishwasher-safe AeroPress for less money.
  • Buy the Go Plus if you want stainless steel for travel.

What you’ll need

Words in this guide

Steeping
Steeping is leaving ground coffee to sit in water so its flavour dissolves out, as in a French press or cold brew.
Pour-over
Pour-over is a way of making filter coffee by hand: you pour hot water over ground coffee in a filter cone and let it drip through into a cup or jug.
