Which AeroPress should I buy?

For most people, the Original or the Clear: both brew 10 oz and use standard filters. Choose the Go or Go Plus for travel, the XL or Clear XL to brew 2–4 cups at once, and the Premium (glass) or Steel (stainless, 12 oz, vacuum-insulated) to avoid plastic. All brew the same way; only the XLs need their own filters.

The AeroPress now comes in eight versions, from the original polypropylene press to a vacuum-insulated stainless steel one. They all brew the same way, steeping coffee and pressing it through a filter, so choosing one comes down to size, material, travel and price. This page compares every model side by side. For how to brew, see the AeroPress guide.

The short version

  • Most people: the Original or the Clear, 10 oz.
  • Travel: the Go (8 oz, packs in a mug) or Go Plus (brews into an insulated tumbler).
  • More at once: the XL or Clear XL, 20 oz, 2–4 cups.
  • No plastic: the Premium (glass) or the Steel (stainless, 12 oz).
  • Filters: standard size for all but the two XLs.

Which AeroPress is best for travel?

The Go is the lightest: packed in its mug with accessories and 20 filters, it weighs 11.4 oz (323 g), AeroPress says. The Go Plus trades weight for a hot drink: it brews straight into an insulated stainless steel tumbler that fits a car cup holder. The Steel is sold for travel too, being hard to break, though AeroPress notes stainless steel can dent if mistreated.

Is the AeroPress Steel worth it?

It depends what you value. The Steel is AeroPress’s first all-metal brewer: chamber, plunger, filter cap, scoop and stirrer are 304 stainless steel, with a silicone seal. Its vacuum-insulated double wall means less heat is lost to the chamber when you pour, so it holds a higher, steadier brewing temperature than other AeroPress models, the company says, and the outside doesn’t get hot. You can’t see inside, so a laser-etched line inside the chamber marks the (5) level.

It’s not cheap. At launch it cost $169.95 in the US, TechRadar reported, less than the Premium’s $199.95. The two sources disagree slightly on its size:

Source Capacity claim
AeroPress 12 oz (360 ml), 20% more than the Original, Clear, Premium and Go Plus
Sprudge 20% larger than the standard AeroPress: 12 oz, up from 10 oz
TechRadar 20% more than the Original or the AeroPress Go

Sources as listed. The Go holds 8 oz, so TechRadar’s comparison with it doesn’t add up; AeroPress’s own figure is 12 oz.

A metal filter lets the coffee’s oils through for a fuller-bodied cup; paper keeps them out for a cleaner one, AeroPress says. See paper filters for more.

Questions & answers

What is the difference between AeroPress models?

Size, material and what comes with them. They all brew the same way. The Original and Go are polypropylene, the Clear and Clear XL are Tritan, the Premium is glass and metal, and the Steel is stainless steel. The Go and Go Plus pack into a mug or tumbler for travel; the XLs brew twice as much.

Do all AeroPress models use the same filters?

All but two. Standard-size paper filters fit the Original, Clear, Go, Go Plus, Premium and Steel, AeroPress says. The XL and Clear XL need XL filters.

Which AeroPress holds the most?

The XL and Clear XL, which brew 20 oz (600 ml), or 2–4 cups, at once. Among the standard-size models the Steel holds most, 12 oz (360 ml), 20% more than the Original, Clear, Premium and Go Plus.

Which AeroPress models are dishwasher safe?

All except the Premium, which is handmade and hand wash only, AeroPress says. Most go on the top shelf; the Clear and Clear XL can go on the top or bottom shelf.

What is the AeroPress Steel?

An all-stainless-steel AeroPress announced on 25 February 2026. Its double-wall, vacuum-insulated 304 stainless steel chamber holds 12 oz and keeps heat better than other AeroPress models, the company says. It launched at $169.95 in the US.
