Questions & answers
What is a good coffee to water ratio?
For filter coffee, 1:15 to 1:17 is the most common range, for example 15 g of coffee to 250 g of water. Espresso uses about 1:2, a moka pot about 1:7, and Turkish coffee about 1:10.
How many grams of coffee per cup?
For a 250 ml mug of filter coffee, use about 15 g of coffee, roughly two level tablespoons of whole beans. For a single espresso, use 7–9 g; for a double, 16–20 g.
Should I measure coffee by weight or by scoops?
By weight. Different beans and grind sizes take up different volumes, so a scoop can vary by 20% or more. A simple kitchen scale accurate to 0.1 g makes your coffee far more consistent.
