Pulse pouring

Also known as pulse pour, pulsed pouring

What is pulse pouring in coffee?

Pulse pouring means adding the brew water in several smaller pours, letting the level drop a little between each, instead of one continuous pour. It makes it easier to keep a steady water level and is popular with the V60. Neither style is better; consistency matters most.

Each pour adds some agitation, so more pulses usually means slightly faster extraction. The well-known 4:6 method for the V60 is a pulse-pouring recipe.
