Burr grinder
What is burr grinder in coffee?
A burr grinder crushes coffee between two hard, ridged surfaces called burrs, set a fixed distance apart, so particles come out a consistent size. A blade grinder chops beans with a spinning blade, making an uneven mix of dust and chunks. Even particles extract evenly, which is why burr grinders make noticeably better coffee.
Burrs come in two main shapes: conical (a cone inside a ring, common in hand grinders) and flat (two parallel discs). Both work well; the quality of the burrs and how steadily they are held matter more than the shape. See also grind size.
