How much coffee does it grow?
More than anywhere else, in UCDA’s last survey. Its two production surveys of 2022/23 put Uganda’s crop in four regions at 5.8 million bags, of which the South Western region grew 3.2 million, ahead of Greater Masaka (1.1 million), Central (1.1 million) and Western (0.3 million). The previous year’s surveys did not report the south-west separately.
Good harvests here move Uganda’s exports: in 2021/22, UCDA put strong exports early in the year down to good weather and a good harvest in the south-west and Masaka.
When is it harvested?
The main robusta harvest runs from about May to August in the south-west and Masaka, according to the exporter Sucafina, and in 2026 the Ministry of Agriculture reported it over by September.
